The Kremlin
The Kremlin is a fortified complex in the centre of Moscow that serves as the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation. The name is commonly used metonymically to refer to the Russian government and its senior leadership, much as "the White House" stands in for the U.S. administration. The complex encompasses palaces, cathedrals and museums enclosed by historic walls and towers, and parts of it are open to the public as a major cultural site. It has functioned as the seat of Russian power since the medieval period and is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
