Supreme Allied Commander Europe
The Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) is one of NATO's two strategic commanders, heading Allied Command Operations. The post is always held by the same officer who commands United States European Command (EUCOM), making the role a dual-hat arrangement between NATO and the U.S. military. SACEUR is appointed by the U.S. President with the approval of the North Atlantic Council and directs all NATO military operations on the European theatre.
