Special Operations Forces (SSO)
The Special Operations Forces (SSO) of Ukraine's Armed Forces are a separate branch of the Ukrainian military, established in 2015. They report directly to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and are tasked with special operations deep behind enemy lines, including reconnaissance, sabotage, and hostage rescue. The SSO played a prominent role in the defence of Kyiv in early 2022 and in operations during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
