Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service
Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) is the Russian civilian foreign intelligence agency, successor to the Soviet KGB's First Chief Directorate. Established in 1991, it is responsible for intelligence operations outside Russia's borders, covering political, economic, scientific-technical and military-strategic matters. Its headquarters are in Moscow, and it is headed by a director appointed by the President of Russia.
