The Russian Presidential Administration is the federal body that supports the work of the President of Russia and is headed by the President's Chief of Staff. It coordinates the activities of federal executive organs, drafts presidential decrees and orders, oversees their implementation, and manages personnel policy across the state apparatus. Its headquarters sit on Staraya Square in Moscow. The head of the administration is consistently one of the most powerful positions in the Russian government.

Russian state news agency RIA Novosti published and then removed a column that openly threatened a nuclear strike against Lithuania, days after the Lithuanian parliament moved to lift its constitutional ban on hosting weapons of mass destruction.
