Russian Maritime Register of Shipping
The Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) is the Russian Federation's state classification society, responsible for technical supervision of the design, construction and operation of vessels and for maintaining the register of ships flying the Russian flag. It traces its origins to the Russian Society of Shipping and Shipbuilding, founded in 1913 in Saint Petersburg. Based in Saint Petersburg, it issues classification certificates, conducts surveys and sets technical requirements for a large share of the Russian merchant fleet.
