Russia pounds Ukraine with 108 drones hours before US envoys' Kyiv visit
Russia launched a large-scale overnight drone attack on Ukraine on September 6, firing 108 Shahed-type strike drones, decoys and other unmanned aircraft, as US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner prepared to travel to Kyiv following a visit to Moscow. Ukrainian air defense reported shooting down or suppressing 88 drones by 09:30, while strikes and debris were recorded across 18 locations. The attack directly contradicted the Kremlin's claim, issued the previous day, that Vladimir Putin had ordered a three-day pause on strikes on Kyiv to accommodate the negotiations.
