Russian defense-industrial complex
The Russian military-industrial complex (VPK) is the network of state-owned and private enterprises, design bureaus and research institutes responsible for developing, manufacturing and supplying weapons and military equipment for the Russian Armed Forces. It comprises major state corporations such as Rostec and Rosoboronexport, alongside specialized aviation, tank, missile and shipbuilding plants. It is one of the largest defence-industrial sectors in the world by output and operates in close coordination with the Russian Ministry of Defence. Following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the VPK has been subject to extensive Western sanctions that have affected its production capacity and supply chains.
