Germany identifies suspects in Leipzig airport drone attack, formally blames Russia
German authorities have identified two suspects — a Latvian citizen and a Russian citizen from Belarus — in the attempted drone attack on Leipzig/Halle airport that Germany has formally attributed to Russia. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated on September 1 that Moscow bears responsibility for the explosive drone found near Ukrainian An-124 cargo aircraft. The incident has triggered an expanded German response, including new military aid to Ukraine, expanded intelligence powers for the BND, EU sanctions pressure, and the closure of Russia's consulate in Bonn.
