Romanian Ministry of National Defence
The Romanian Ministry of National Defense is the central government body responsible for Romania's defense policy and for administering the Romanian Armed Forces. It is headed by a civilian Minister of National Defense appointed by the Romanian government and is headquartered in Bucharest. The ministry oversees military planning, force structure, and Romania's contributions to NATO, of which Romania has been a member since 2004.

Drone from Ukraine crosses Moldova and crashes in northern Romania
On 12 September 2026, an unauthorized drone entered Moldovan airspace from Ukraine, flew across the country, and crashed in a cornfield in Suceava county in northeastern Romania, causing a small fire and a crater about one meter wide. Moldovan authorities temporarily closed parts of the country's airspace, while Romania scrambled two F-16 fighters and issued RO-Alert emergency messages.
