Ukraine's economy minister says each hour of air raid alert costs the country about $45 million
Ukraine's Economy Minister Oleksandr Kravchenko told The Guardian that one hour of air raid alert costs Ukraine roughly $45 million in lost business activity, with alerts lasting up to 10 hours a day. He said Russian strikes on metallurgy plants, warehouses, logistics centres and data centres have caused more than $10 billion in damage since the start of 2026, and described the attacks as an attempt to "destroy practically the entire economy." Kravchenko outlined Ukraine's new two-tier "yellow" and "red" alert system, designed to let businesses keep operating during lower-threat drone alerts.
