The International Committee of the Red Cross is a humanitarian organisation founded in 1863 in Geneva. It works to protect the victims of armed conflict and to provide assistance to those affected by war and natural disasters. It operates under the Geneva Conventions and forms part of the wider International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Oleshky residents evacuated under ceasefire as regular humanitarian missions are planned
Residents of temporarily occupied Oleshky in Kherson region crossed the Belarusian-Ukrainian border on October 31 after a temporary humanitarian ceasefire. Ukraine and Russia agreed to continue regular humanitarian missions and facilitate the delivery of aid to the city.

Russian airstrikes hit Kherson residential district, killing ambulance driver and wounding civilians including two children
Russian forces struck the Korabelnyi district of Kherson with eight guided aerial bombs in two airstrikes within roughly an hour on the morning of October 17. A 64-year-old driver of an emergency medical service brigade was killed in a repeat strike that hit after medics had arrived at the scene. A paramedic and a nurse were among the wounded, and casualties included an 11-year-old girl and a one-month-old infant from a family of three hospitalized in moderate condition. A 58-year-old man was later hospitalized in a coma with skull fractures and an open head injury, and was reported to have died in hospital. Ten multi-storey residential buildings, a supermarket, administrative buildings and a Red Cross office were damaged; rescuers pulled survivors from the rubble.

Russian drone strike hits Dnipro bridge in Zaporizhzhia, injuring at least five
Russian forces struck one of the bridges over the Dnipro River in Zaporizhzhia during the night and morning of 5–6 October, damaging the road surface and temporarily closing the crossing. Acting Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration head Mykhailo Semikin reported the attack via Telegram. Initial reports cited two injured men; later updates raised the figure to five, including Red Cross employees who were traveling to work. The strike was part of a wider overnight drone campaign that also prompted air raid alerts and explosions in Kyiv and Kropyvnytskyi.

Russia launches 137-drone overnight barrage on Ukraine; air defence downs 114
Russia attacked Ukraine overnight on October 5–6 with 137 strike drones, the Ukrainian Air Force reported. Air defence shot down or suppressed 114 of them by 08:00, though the attack was still ongoing with several drones still in the airspace. Hits and falling debris caused casualties and damage in Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, and Kharkiv.

Ukrainian churches appeal to Pope Leo XIV over humanitarian crisis in occupied Oleshky
The All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations has appealed to Pope Leo XIV, the UN, the ICRC and other religious bodies to intervene in what it calls a humanitarian catastrophe in Russian-occupied Oleshky in Kherson Oblast. Ukraine says the city has had no food deliveries since late May 2026, with civilians cut off from supplies and prevented from leaving, and announced it will raise the situation at the UN General Assembly High-Level Week.
