Ramstein format
The Ramstein format (Ukraine Defense Contact Group) is an informal international coordination mechanism established in April 2022 at the U.S. Ramstein Air Base in Germany to coordinate military assistance to Ukraine. It brings together around 50 countries along with NATO and EU representatives and serves as the main venue for announcing and synchronising deliveries of weapons, ammunition and equipment. Meetings are held regularly at the level of defence ministers and chiefs of defence, chaired by the United States.

An emergency classified meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council was held at NATO Headquarters on 3 September 2026 to discuss strengthening Ukraine's air defense against Russia's new aerial terror tactics, including jet-powered Shahed-type drones. Ukraine briefed all 32 NATO members on the specific weapons packages it expects within a week, ahead of the next Ramstein-format UDCG meeting, and pushed for additional PURL contributions and anti-ballistic interceptor transfers.
