Lviv council declares 2027 the year of the UPA, Shukhevych and Olzhych, drawing Polish backlash
On 20 October, the Lviv Oblast Council voted to designate 2027 as the year of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, commander Roman Shukhevych and poet and OUN activist Oleh Olzhych. The announcement was later removed from the council’s website and social media amid strong Polish criticism and a proposal to restrict the initiative’s author. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry called the decision counterproductive for bilateral relations but urged Poland to avoid measures that could hinder normalisation.
