Pochayiv Lavra of the Holy Dormition
The Pochayiv Holy Dormition Lavra is an Orthodox men's monastery in the town of Pochayiv in Ternopil Oblast, western Ukraine. Founded in the thirteenth century, it is one of the principal spiritual centres of historical Volhynia and the most important monastery under the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate). The lavra is directly subordinate to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus', and its institutional ties to the Russian Orthodox Church have repeatedly made it the subject of official inquiries by Ukrainian authorities.
