Nord Stream
Nord Stream is a system of offshore natural gas pipelines running under the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany. The first string (Nord Stream 1) entered service in 2011, the second in 2012. The project was built by a consortium that included Russia's Gazprom, Germany's Wintershall and E.ON, the Dutch Gasunie and France's ENGIE (then GDF Suez). In September 2022 both strings of the pipeline were severely damaged by explosions in the exclusive economic zones of Denmark and Sweden.

Suspect in Nord Stream sabotage Volodymyr Zhuravlov seeks asylum in Croatia amid extradition fight
Volodymyr Zhuravlov, a Ukrainian national Germany suspects of involvement in the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline sabotage, has applied for political asylum in Croatia, where he is being held on a European arrest warrant. His lawyer said the asylum claim does not automatically halt extradition, and the defence is appealing a Croatian court ruling that allowed his transfer to Germany.
