In the night of 22 September, drones struck the Kuibyshev oil refinery in Russia's Samara region, causing a large-scale fire at the AVT-5 primary oil refining unit, according to OSINT analysts and social media videos. Samara Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev acknowledged that air defense forces had shot down "dozens of drones" targeting industrial enterprises overnight, but did not mention the refinery fire, instead reporting damage to civilian objects. The attack came a day after US President Donald Trump publicly urged Ukraine to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries.
