Palace of Versailles
The Palace of Versailles is a former royal residence in Versailles, west of Paris. Originally a hunting lodge built by Louis XIII, it was expanded into the principal seat of the French monarchy by Louis XIV in the seventeenth century. The palace is one of the most celebrated examples of French Baroque architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today it operates as a museum, while its hall, the Hall of Mirrors, continues to host joint sessions of the French parliament on occasions of constitutional significance.
