Operation Irini
Operation Irini is a European Union naval mission in the Mediterranean launched in 2020 as the successor to Operation Sophia. Its mandate focuses on enforcing the UN arms embargo on Libya, including through inspections of vessels suspected of carrying weapons or related materiel. The operation, headquartered in Rome, also monitors illegal oil exports from Libya and contributes to broader efforts to stabilise the country.
