Office of the Military Ombudsman

The Office of the Military Ombudsman is an independent institutional mechanism within the system of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, established to protect the rights of service members and their families. It was created in 2017 on the initiative of the then-Commissioner for Human Rights, and operates under Ukraine's legislation on the legal regime of martial law and democratic civilian oversight of the Armed Forces. The office handles complaints, monitors conditions of military service and represents servicemembers' interests in dealings with state bodies. The Military Ombudsman is appointed by the Verkhovna Rada on the nomination of the Human Rights Commissioner.
