Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada

The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada is the parliamentary ombudsman of Ukraine, tasked with monitoring the observance of constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens. The office was established by Ukraine's Constitution in 1996 and began operating in 1998. The Commissioner is elected by the Verkhovna Rada for a five-year term and is institutionally independent from other branches of government.
