Nord Stream 2
Nord Stream 2 is a natural gas pipeline running under the Baltic Sea from Russia to the coast of Germany, built to double the capacity of the original Nord Stream system. It was constructed by Nord Stream 2 AG, a company set up by Russia's Gazprom with several European energy firms as shareholders, with construction largely completed by 2021 despite opposition from the United States, Ukraine, Poland and several other European governments concerned about Europe's energy dependence on Russia. Germany halted its certification shortly before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and the pipeline has not been used for commercial gas deliveries since.
