Sanctioned tankers loaded over 176,000 tonnes of fuel at South Korean ports for Russia in July–August
An analysis of port records and vessel tracking data found that in July and August, seven tankers made 14 voyages from South Korean ports to the Russian Far East carrying more than 176,000 tonnes of fuel, mostly diesel. Three of the tankers were under UK and EU sanctions, and the trade does not appear to violate South Korean law. The shipments come as Russia's refining capacity is under heavy strain and coincide with a diplomatic dispute between Seoul and Kyiv over the public disclosure of a transfer of two North Korean prisoners of war.
