The National Preserve "Sofia of Kyiv" is a Ukrainian state institution for the protection of cultural heritage, overseeing a complex of monuments in central Kyiv. Its central monument is Saint Sophia Cathedral, built in the 11th century under Prince Yaroslav the Wise, together with the surrounding monastery buildings, the bell tower and the Zaborovsky Gate. The preserve also includes architectural monuments from the 11th to the 18th centuries on the grounds of the former Saint Sophia Monastery and surrounding streets. The cathedral and monastery complex have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1990.
