National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NAS of Ukraine) is the country's highest state scientific institution, founded in 1918. It unites a network of research institutes, laboratories and other organizations across fields ranging from physics and mathematics to history and literary studies. The Academy is the principal centre of fundamental research in Ukraine and a coordinator of state scientific policy. Its Presidium is located in Kyiv on Volodymyrska Street.

Russian drone strikes National Academy of Sciences building in central Kyiv, killing at least one
On 28 September, a Russian jet-powered drone struck the Presidium building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on Volodymyrska Street in central Kyiv during the working day, causing a large fire and significant damage. At least one woman was killed and multiple people were injured, including former National Security and Defense Council Secretary Volodymyr Horbulin, who sustained minor injuries. The attack drew sharp international condemnation and prompted Ukraine's foreign minister to call for stripping Russia of its UNESCO voting rights.
