National Academy of Sciences
The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is the country's principal state-run scientific organization, coordinating fundamental and applied research. Founded in 1918, it unites a network of research institutes in Kyiv together with regional scientific centres across the country. It is led by a president elected by its full members (academicians) and is accountable to the Verkhovna Rada and the government of Ukraine.

Russia hits Kyiv with combined ballistic missile and drone attack overnight
Russia launched a combined missile and drone strike on Kyiv during the night of 29 September 2026, with ballistic missiles reportedly fired from the Kursk direction. Explosions were heard across the city, a "red" level air-raid alert was declared, and hits and fires were reported in several districts. Casualties from the preceding day's attacks on Kyiv stood at 26 injured and 2 killed.
