The National Security Council (NSC) is a United States government body that advises the president on domestic and foreign policy related to national security. It is chaired by the National Security Advisor, who also serves as its director. The council coordinates policy among the military, intelligence, and diplomatic agencies and plays a central role in shaping U.S. responses to international crises and conflicts.

US envoys meet Putin in Moscow before talks with Zelensky in Kyiv
US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin on September 5 after a 3.5-hour working lunch with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev. The meeting produced no publicly announced breakthrough, but the Kremlin described a temporary halt to strikes on Kyiv while Ukraine said it was prepared to reciprocate regarding Moscow. The envoys were expected in Kyiv on September 6.
