US Proposes Resuming Russian Gas Transit Through Ukraine to Support Energy Truce
The United States is promoting a plan to resume Russian gas exports to Europe through Ukrainian pipelines as an incentive for an energy ceasefire and a way to lower energy prices before winter. The proposal would use a US intermediary to bypass European sanctions and place Russian gas revenue in an escrow account, but it faces strong opposition from European officials and runs counter to EU plans to phase out Russian gas imports.
