Moldovan Ministry of Defence
The Moldovan Ministry of Defense is the central executive body of Moldova responsible for shaping and implementing state policy in the field of defense, managing the Armed Forces, and ensuring the country's military security. It is headed by the Minister of Defense, appointed by Parliament on the proposal of the Prime Minister. Under Moldova's constitutionally enshrined neutrality, the ministry exercises civilian oversight of the army and coordinates international military cooperation.

Drone from Ukraine crosses Moldova and crashes in northern Romania
On 12 September 2026, an unauthorized drone entered Moldovan airspace from Ukraine, flew across the country, and crashed in a cornfield in Suceava county in northeastern Romania, causing a small fire and a crater about one meter wide. Moldovan authorities temporarily closed parts of the country's airspace, while Romania scrambled two F-16 fighters and issued RO-Alert emergency messages.
