Trump agrees Russian diesel deal with Putin, suspends them; announces energy ceasefire Ukraine says was news to it
On October 9, US President Donald Trump arranged Russian diesel deliveries to US and world markets during a phone call with Vladimir Putin and agreed to suspend sanctions on Russian fuel exports for six months. Trump also announced an October 11 "energy ceasefire" between Ukraine and Russia that, according to a White House official cited by Axios, refers only to halting strikes on oil refineries. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the sanction easing "obvious weakness" and said the ceasefire announcement was news to him; EU High Representative Kaja Kallas warned the limited arrangement asymmetrically benefits Russia. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney told Zelensky the deal contradicts allied peace efforts.
