Makhachkala Sea Commercial Port
The Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port is a state-owned enterprise located in Makhachkala on the Caspian Sea coast in Dagestan, Russia. It is one of the largest ports on the Russian Caspian coast and a key logistics hub for cargo traffic between Russia, Iran, and other Caspian states. The port handles oil tankers, container and general cargo, and serves passenger ferry lines. The enterprise is owned by the Russian Federation and private shareholders, with a majority state stake.

Drones attack Russia's Makhachkala port on Caspian, fire reported; Sochi also struck overnight
In the night of 9–10 September 2026, drones attacked Makhachkala port in Russia's Dagestan Republic, reportedly causing a fire. Russian authorities initially gave no official statement, though acting head of Dagestan Fyodor Shchukin later said air defence destroyed all air targets and that fires at port infrastructure and the Avar Musical-Drama Theatre were quickly extinguished. The previous evening, unmanned surface craft struck Sochi in Krasnodar Krai, injuring eight and damaging beach infrastructure and the Primorsky embankment.
