Makhachkala Sea Commercial Port
The Makhachkala Sea Commercial Port is a state-owned seaport on the Caspian Sea coast in Makhachkala, the capital of the Republic of Dagestan in Russia. It is one of the largest Russian ports on the Caspian and serves as a major cargo hub for oil, grain and general freight from the Caucasus and Central Asia.

Drones attack Russia's Makhachkala port on Caspian, fire reported; Sochi also struck overnight
In the night of 9–10 September 2026, drones attacked Makhachkala port in Russia's Dagestan Republic, reportedly causing a fire. Russian authorities initially gave no official statement, though acting head of Dagestan Fyodor Shchukin later said air defence destroyed all air targets and that fires at port infrastructure and the Avar Musical-Drama Theatre were quickly extinguished. The previous evening, unmanned surface craft struck Sochi in Krasnodar Krai, injuring eight and damaging beach infrastructure and the Primorsky embankment.
