Makhachkala Sea Trade Port
Makhachkala Sea Trade Port is the largest port on the Russian coast of the Caspian Sea, located in the capital of Dagestan. The port handles vessels of up to around 20,000 tonnes and specialises in transshipping petroleum products, general cargo and containers. It operates as a joint-stock company and serves as a key transport hub for the North Caucasus and wider Caspian region.

Drones strike Makhachkala port in Russia's Dagestan, fire breaks out at port and theatre
In the night leading into 10 September, drones attacked the Makhachkala sea trade port in Russia's Dagestan, causing a fire in the port area. Reports from local chats and OSINT analysis identified the port as the likely target, while Russia's acting head of Dagestan, Fedir Shchukin, later confirmed a Ukrainian drone attack on the city and said air defence destroyed all aerial targets. A separate drone-boat strike on Sochi the previous evening injured eight people and damaged embankment infrastructure.
