Lviv council's 2027 UPA year designation draws sharp criticism from Poland and Ukraine's Foreign Ministry
On 20 October, the Lviv Oblast Council voted to proclaim 2027 the year of Roman Shukhevych, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), and poet Oleh Olzhych. Poland's foreign minister, defence minister, prime minister and consulate in Lviv condemned the move, with Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski signing a request to add the initiative's author, Sviatoslav Sheremeta, to Poland's list of undesirable persons. Ukraine's Foreign Ministry called the decision counterproductive and said the Lviv deputies had not consulted central authorities before voting.
