Witkoff meets Putin in St. Petersburg to present Ukraine war settlement proposals
US special envoy Steve Witkoff met Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on October 21 and presented documents and proposals aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. The meeting, which Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said had been planned over several days, followed a day of talks in Oslo between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US and European representatives. Witkoff described the Oslo negotiations as productive and said there is a basis for a ceasefire, while Zelensky called for a Zelensky-Putin-Trump trilateral meeting that Russia has so far rejected.
