Russia strikes Zaporizhstal with six ballistic missiles in fifth attack on plant in two months
Russian forces struck the Zaporizhstal metallurgical plant in Zaporizhzhia with six ballistic missiles on the morning of 17 October, the fifth such attack on the facility in roughly two months. The strike damaged internal energy, logistics and blast-furnace infrastructure, though no workers were killed or injured because staff reached shelters in time. Across the five attacks, eight Zaporizhstal workers have been killed and 31 metallurgists injured, and the plant has not returned to normal production since the first strike on 11 August.

Russian strikes idle three plants that produced 90% of Ukraine's steel
Russian ballistic missile strikes in early September knocked out three major Ukrainian metallurgical plants — Zaporizhstal, Kametstal and ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih — which together had accounted for about 90% of Ukraine's steel output. The attacks killed 17 workers and halted production at facilities employing more than 15,000 people. Metinvest's Oleksandr Vodoviz said Ukraine "effectively no longer has a steel industry."
