Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant
The Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant was a hydroelectric station on the Dnieper River in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine, part of the larger Dnipro cascade of hydroelectric plants. It regulated the flow of the lower Dnieper, supplied water for irrigation and household use across southern Ukraine, and generated electricity. In June 2023, the plant's dam was destroyed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, causing massive flooding along the Dnieper and disrupting water supplies to the region.

Ukrainian churches appeal to Pope Leo XIV over starvation crisis in occupied Oleshky
The All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations has appealed to Pope Leo XIV and international humanitarian bodies to intervene in the humanitarian crisis in Russian-occupied Oleshky, Kherson Oblast, where civilians face starvation months after the last food deliveries. The council also called on UN member states and the International Committee of the Red Cross to facilitate a humanitarian mission and evacuation to Ukrainian-controlled territory.
