Joint Grouping of Troops (Forces) of the Russian Armed Forces
The Joint Grouping of Troops (Forces) of the Russian Armed Forces is an operational command structure set up by the Russian military to coordinate its units engaged in the war against Ukraine. It was established in 2022, replacing earlier ad hoc command arrangements for Russian forces in Ukraine. It operates under the Russian General Staff and has been successively led by General Sergei Surovikin and, from October 2022, by Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov. The grouping brings together the various Russian service branches and formations deployed in Ukraine.
