Trump tells Ukraine to elect a new president who can 'make a deal' with Russia
On 10 October, US President Donald Trump publicly called on Ukraine to elect a new leader who can end the war with Russia, accusing President Volodymyr Zelensky of having had many chances to make a deal and choosing not to. The statement came a day after Trump announced a deal with Vladimir Putin to supply Russian diesel to the US and world markets in exchange for lifting related sanctions, which Ukraine and the EU say will give Moscow more revenue for the war. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha replied that Zelensky has the support of the Ukrainian people and that only they can decide who leads them.
