Italian Republic

The Italian Republic is a country in southern Europe, occupying the Apennine Peninsula together with Sicily, Sardinia and a number of smaller islands. It is a parliamentary republic governed by the constitution that has been in force since 1948. Its capital and largest city is Rome. Italy is a member of the European Union and NATO, and was a founding member of the European Communities.
