Institute for the Study of War
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) is an American think tank founded in 2007 that focuses on security policy and the analysis of armed conflicts. It is based in Washington, D.C. The institute has become widely known for its daily battlefield assessments of the war in Ukraine, which it began publishing after Russia's full-scale invasion and which are regularly cited by Western and Ukrainian officials. It is led by its founder, Kimberly Kagan.
