Russia launched a massive combined missile and drone strike on Ukraine overnight into 22 October, with the main target being Kyiv. Three waves of ballistic missiles struck the capital, killing one person, injuring 22 and damaging residential buildings, a monastery, a hypermarket, a metro bridge and other civilian sites. Russian drone strikes hit Kharkiv, Kremenchuk, and Kyiv overnight
On the night of 22 October, Russian forces launched drone and missile attacks on several Ukrainian cities. A jet drone struck the private sector of Kharkiv's Slobidskyi district, where a fire broke out and several private houses were damaged, with no reported casualties. Other impacts were reported across three Kharkiv districts, a private TV station in Kremenchuk, and in Kyiv's Pechersk and Sviatoshynskyi districts.

Russia hits Kyiv energy facility and medical buildings in large drone attack, one killed in city
On 20 October 2026, Russia struck Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast with a large overnight barrage of strike drones, including jet-powered Shaheds. Debris hit an energy facility in the Shevchenkivskyi district, a medical building in the Solomianskyi district and the upper floors of a medical facility in the Holosiivskyi district, while a drone falling near a gas station on the edge of the Holosiivskyi district killed one man. Four Kyiv districts were partially de-energised, and the metro and funicular halted briefly before service resumed.

Russian combined strike hits Irpin's Planeta Plastyk plant; one woman killed, 19 injured
Russia struck Kyiv Oblast overnight on October 19 with ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones, hitting the Planeta Plastyk polymer plant in Irpin and damaging homes across the Bucha and Vyshhorod districts. One woman was killed and at least 19 people, including nine children, were injured in Irpin. Kyiv city was also hit, with one person killed and eight wounded.

Russian strike on Kryvyi Rih industrial site kills two, injures several including a teenager
On 19 October, at around 10:00, Russian forces struck an industrial enterprise in the Pokrovskyi district of Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, using a weapon referred to as "Banderol." Two men were killed. By 12:30, seven people were reported injured, including a 15-year-old boy, with five hospitalized. The blast also damaged nearby residential buildings, a college, a post office, a bank, shops and vehicles. Local and oblast officials reported on the attack, a relief headquarters was set up in a nearby gymnasium, and a war-crimes proceeding was opened.

Russian missile strikes on Kharkiv injure 15, including three children
On the evening of 16 October, Russian missile strikes hit Kharkiv, damaging a warehouse and nearby residential buildings in the Nemyshlianskyi district and striking the Slobidskyi district, according to the State Emergency Service (ДСНС). Fifteen people were injured, including three children. Kharkiv had already been hit in morning strikes earlier the same day, which killed two and injured 18.

Russia launches massive new campaign of strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities
On 16 October, Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov publicly reported to Vladimir Putin that Russia had begun a dedicated campaign of massive strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Ukraine's General Staff reports strikes on Russian missile-repair base, radar, and depots across four oblasts
On 12 October and during the night of 13 October, Ukraine's Defence Forces struck a series of Russian military targets, including an Iskander-M missile-system repair base in Russia's Kursk Oblast and a radar station in Bryansk Oblast, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Fuel and ammunition depots were hit in occupied Luhansk Oblast, while concentrations of Russian personnel were struck across Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Luhansk oblasts.

Russian drone strike hits Rivne university, injuring dozens
On the morning of 13 October a Russian drone struck a building of Rivne State Humanitarian University in the centre of Rivne, setting it on fire, damaging the second floor and façade, and injuring dozens of people. Most of the wounded were university administrative staff; all students were in shelters at the time. The Faculty of Music Arts building was almost completely burned out, and Ukrainian authorities opened a war-crimes investigation.

Ukraine's parliament backs bill boosting parliamentary oversight of law enforcement

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General announces suspicion against NABU director, then leaves the country; Zelensky moves to dismiss him
