Lviv Oblast Council declares 2027 the year of the UPA, Shukhevych and Olzhych; Poland pushes back
On 20 October, the Lviv Oblast Council voted to designate 2027 as the year of Roman Shukhevych, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) and poet Oleh Olzhych, linking the move to anniversary dates. The decision, initiated by council culture committee head Sviatoslav Sheremeta, was later removed from the council's website and social media the same evening. Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said the measure was counterproductive, while Poland's prime minister, defence minister, foreign minister and deputy foreign minister all condemned it; Warsaw moved to add Sheremeta to its list of undesirable persons.
