Holy Dormition Sviatohirsk Lavra
The Holy Dormition Sviatohirsk Lavra is an active Orthodox men's monastery in the town of Sviatohirsk in Donetsk Oblast, eastern Ukraine, situated on the right bank of the Siverskyi Donets river. Founded in the 16th–17th centuries, it is one of three lavras of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the principal religious and architectural landmark of Sviatohirsk. The complex comprises cave and surface churches, including a wooden Church of St Nicholas and the Dormition Cathedral, and is part of Ukraine's historical and cultural heritage. The lavra suffered damage during the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has been the site of combat on several occasions.
