Russia strikes Kyiv and Boryspil airports, Zelensky links attack to US diplomacy visit
In the night of September 4–5, Russia launched a large-scale drone attack on Ukraine that President Zelensky said deliberately targeted the Kyiv (Zhuliany) and Boryspil airports for the first time in a long time. Zelensky framed the strikes as a Russian response to the planned visit of US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. A 9-story residential building in Boryspil was partially destroyed and a civilian enterprise in Kamianske was hit, while Zelensky warned that Ukraine would adjust its operations regarding Russian airspace in the coming week.
