Rubio says a diplomatic end to the Russia–Ukraine war is "unattainable"; Zelensky rejects the framing
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told the Greek newspaper Kathimerini that ending the war through negotiations is currently unattainable and that the conflict is in a "strategic deadlock" that can be exited only through talks or escalation. Russian demands for full control of Donbas remain the core obstacle, he said, and the US stands ready to help if an opening appears. President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the deadlock characterization, announced that Ukrainian negotiators will travel to the US on October 9–10, and urged Washington to tighten economic pressure on Russia rather than pursue economic engagement with Moscow.
