More than half of Ukraine's F-16s grounded as Belgian maintenance backlog stretches to up to 40 weeks
The Wall Street Journal reports that more than half of Ukraine's F-16 fleet is non-combat-ready because phased technical inspections in Belgium are taking far longer than the equivalent work in the United States. Maintenance is performed by Sabena Aerospace Engineering under a US contract worth up to $235.5 million. With Russia sharply increasing launches of jet-powered drones, Ukraine's most effective countermeasure is losing availability at a critical moment.
