German federal government
The German federal government is the executive authority of the Federal Republic of Germany, headed by the Federal Chancellor. It comprises the chancellor and the federal ministers, who together shape and carry out national policy in areas such as foreign affairs, defence, the economy and finance. The government represents Germany internationally, including in the European Union and NATO, and is responsible for the federal budget. Its powers and procedures are set out in the Basic Law and it is answerable to the Bundestag and the Bundesrat.
