High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy is the EU's chief diplomat and the face of the bloc's external action. The post was created by the Treaty of Lisbon, which entered into force in 2009, and the officeholder also serves as one of the Vice-Presidents of the European Commission. The High Representative chairs the Foreign Affairs Council and heads the European External Action Service, the Union's diplomatic corps, which runs more than 130 delegations around the world.
