European Convention on Human Rights
The European Convention on Human Rights is an international treaty opened for signature in Rome in 1950 under the auspices of the Council of Europe. It codifies fundamental civil and political rights and established the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg to supervise states' compliance. The Convention is legally binding on the member states of the Council of Europe that have ratified it.
